  • Here, the term Char Dham indicates towards an important Hindu Pilgrimage circuit located in the Garhwal region of Uttrakhand. It is also known as Char Dham of Himalayas or Chota Char Dham.

  • This circuit comprises four important sacred sites of Hindu pilgrimage Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.

  • These pilgrimage sites draw maximum numbers of pilgrims every year. It makes them most important religious hub in northern India.

  • Land of Uttrakhand is also known as “Dev Bhumi”. There are various tales of Devine beings finding their home in Uttrakhand, stories about every river and most important thing people’s faith in them.

  • Each of these Char Dham destinations has their own legendry story. Each of the four sites has their specific deity

  • Yamunotri

    Yamunotri is dedicated to goddess Yamuna. Yamuna River is the second most sacred river in India. It originates from Yamunotri, which makes it one of the pilgrimage sites of chota char dham. It is situated in Uttarkashi district of Uttrakhand.

  • The most sacred area of Yamunotri is called the “Divya Shila”, which is a dark rock from where the hot spring emerges. Yamunotri Dham is the first stop in the pilgrimage.

  • It is believed that that bathing in its water clean all the sins and protect devotee from painful or untimely death. There are many hot water springs near the temple, Surya kund is most important among them.

    Gangotri

  • Gangotri is one of the main religious places among Char Dham. It is situated in Uttarkashi, related to goddess Ganga.

  • Legend says Goddess Ganga transformed herself into river and descended on earth to absolve the sins of human kind.

  • Ganga originates at Gaumukh from Gangotri glacier, which is around 18km from the Gangotri town. Ganga is known as Bhagirathi in starting which changes into Ganga after river passes Devprayag and merges into the river Alaknanda.

  • It is a perfect destination to enjoy sceneries snow-clad mountains, pure crystal clear water of Ganges. High altitude og Gangotri makes you feel close to God.

  • Kedarnath

  • Kedarnath, situated in Rudraprayag district of Uttrakhand is dedicated to Lord Shiva an also a part of Panch kedar. It is one of the most important locations for Lord Shiva’s worshippers.

  • Kedarnath Temple is one of the twelve Jyotirlingam. This northmost Jyotirlinga is located in Himalayas near chorabari glacier and is close to the source of holy river Mandakini.

  • View of Kedarnath is very beautiful. Trek from Gauri kund to Kedarnath temple is filled with Heavenly sceneries. Ponies and Doli are easily available. One can also experience Helicopter service during the peak season of yatra.

  • Magnificent Kedarnath peak stands behind the temple with some other peaks, creating a spiritual atmosphere and forming a perfect setting for the holy land of supreme deity. The shape of Shiva Lingam in Kedarnath is also attracts pilgrims as it is little different from other Lingams.

    Badrinath

  • Badrinath is a holy town and a nagar panchayat in Chamoli district of Uttrakhand, is consider as one of the most holy places in Hindu religion.

  • Situated between Nar and Narayan peak and banks of river Alaknanda Badrinath is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

  • Badrinath is a part of four dominant Char Dham pilgrimage sites of India which are Dwarka, Badrinath, Puri and Rameshwaram.

  • Badrinath is the last and the most acknowledge stop in this Char Dham yatra of Gaharwal Himalayas

  • Around three kilometres from Badrinath there is Mana Village, which is one of the last village of India before Tibet begins. The glorious Nealkanth peak further makes the Badrinath Dham more fascinating.
